Abstract

ABSTRACT The State of Rural Poverty and Rural Development in in Western l3har al-Ghazal State: (A Field Study in Three Internally Displaced ' Persons’ (lDPs) Campsl Through an original fieldwork, this research attempts to describe and analyze the state of rural poverty and rural development in three Internally Displaced Persons (lDPs) Camps (viz. Khor Kunda; l\/larial Ajeith; Bar Yar) in Western Bhar al-Ghazal State, Southern Sudan. The sample size and the statistical methods used to analyze information and primary data, allow statistically significance data and high degree of reliability of measurements and confidence in results and recommendations of the the survey. The study concludes that - within the socio-economic and political conditions in the Southern Sudan — both economic social poverty indicators, taken as a whole, were woresing among lDPs in the research area, with some progress regarding alleviating poverty and rural development efforts, but, with observed delays and inadequacy in implementation. Accordingly, the research ends with several policy recommendations generally aim to improve the state of lDPs in the Southern Sudan on sustainable way, and within broader strategy for peace and development.
