Abstract The Common Outer Ocular Disorders in Khartoum Industrial yard Mechanics and their Effect in the Vision and Refractive State of the Eye The aim of the study is to assess the distributions of the outer eye disorders in mechanics and their effect on vision and refractive stat of the eye. The method was included examinations of vision, visual acuity, refraction, and outer eye examinations. The examinations and measurements were done in Khartoum industrial yard for 100 mechanics were selected randomly. Their ages was ranged from 25 to 65 years, and the duration of their work was from <5 to 45 years. The results were presented in tables, and figures, and analyzed statistically by using SPSS 16.0. The study revealed the following results: - Working in industrial yard for long period of time showed increased probability of the outer eye disease. P 25, 26 - Pterygium was the most frequent disorder 38%, followed by cataract 21%, dry eye 10%, conjunctivitis 6%, corneal edeama 4%, and pinguecula 3%. Eighteen percent of the sample showed no anterior segment abnormality. P 25, 26 - Pterygium and cataract were widely distributed in mechanics with work duration from 16 to 25 years. P 25, 26 - Cataract was the main cause of the sever vision loss (6/60 or worse) in mechanics. P 27 - Pterygium was responsible of moderate visual loss of (6/9 to 6/36). P 27 - The most frequent refractive error was astigmatism. P 27 - Large number of volunteers was reached standard visual acuity of (6/6 to 6/5) after best correction. P 27 Key words: mechanics, outer eye disorders.
