The Effect of Anti-Hypertensive Drugs on Tear Quantity

Abstract

Abstract This is a cross sectional study conducted in Khartoum state, Almotakamel Complex in the period from March to May 2015. The main objective of the study was to evaluate tear quantity in hypertensive patients concerning the impact of anti hypertensive drugs (Amilodipine and Losartan) on the tear volume. Eighty patients who have been treated with anti hypertensive treatment (Amilodipine and Losartan) were included in this study; 56% female, and 44% male, their age ranged between 45-75 years old; the frequent age group was in (60-65); 27%. General and ocular history was taken for each subject, quantity of tear volume was measured using schirmer test paper examination, and the information was taken by using a special designed data form. The results showed that most of the sample suffered from severe dryness 43%, 30% had moderate eye dryness, 20% had normal tear volume and 7% with watery eye. Hypertensive patients who were using Amilodipine drug showed the following results: 36% were having severe dryness, 39% moderate dryness, 16% with normal tear volume and 9% watery eye. In Losartan drug patients 52% had abnormal tear volume, 17% had moderate dryness, 24% normal tear volume, and 7% watery eye. The group of the patients who were use Amilodipine /losartan 42% abnormal tear volume, 29% moderate dryness, 29% normal tear volume.

ملخص البحث اجريت هذه الدراسة المقطعية بولاية الخرطوم، في مركز المتكامل في فترة ما بين مارس حتى مايو 2015م، يهدف هذا البحث لتقييم تاثير ادوية ارتفاع ضغط الدم على كمية الدموع. تضمنت العينه 80 مريضا استخدموا ادوية لعلاج ضغط الدم، 56% اناث و 44% ذكور، تراوحت اعمار المرضى ما بين 45 – 75 سنة وكانت اكثر فئة عمرية بين 60 – 65 سنة بنسبة 27%. تم اخذ التاريخ المرضي لاعينهم وقياس كمية الدموع لديهم عن طريق اختبار ورقة شيرمر وتم اجراء الاختبارات والقياسات واخذ المعلومات العامة حول افراد العينة باستخدام ورقة بيانات صممت لهذا الغرض. اوضحت النتائج ان اغلب افراد العينة يعانون من جفاف في العيون 43% من المرضى لديهم جفاف حاد، 30% جفاف متوسط، 20% كان معدل الدموع طبيعيا و 7% يعانون من زيادة في كمية الدموع. كما اوضحت الدراسة ان المرضى الذين يستخدمون دواء Amilodopine 36% منهم يعانون جفاف حاد، 39% جفاف متوسط، 16% كمية الدموع طبيعية والذين يعانون من الزيادة في كمية الدموع 9%. اما المرضى الذين يستخدمون دواء (Losartan) 52% منهم يعانون من الجفاف الحاد، 17% جفاف متوسط و 24% كمية الدموع لديهم كانت طبيعية والذين يعانون من الزيادة في كمية الدموع 7%. اما المرضى الذين استخدموا النوعين من العلاج كانت 42% جفاف حاد، 29% جفاف متوسط،29% كانت كمية الدموع لديهم طبيعية.
