KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE REGARDING CARE OF HIV POSITIVE PREGANANT WOMEN IN OMDURMAN MILITTARY AND SAUDI MATERNITY HOSPITALS IN SUDAN 2015

Abstract
Introduction: Human Immune Virus (HIV) is the leading cause of mortality among
women of reproductive age worldwide and is a major contributor to matemal, infant, and
child morbidity and mortality I.
Aims of the studyzstudy aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of the nursesl
midwives regarding care of HIV positive pregnant women.
Methods: This was descriptive cross- sectional hospital- based study, conducted among
nurses/midwives working in labor ward and postnatal ward in Omdurman ' and
Saudi matemity hospitals At Omdurman locality.
A total of 80 participants were enrolled in study. infon'nation’s were obtained through
interviewer administer questionnaire. Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) used
for analysis, descriptive statistic and cross tabulation with chi- squire test was done to
explore association between variables.
ReSuIts:the majority of the respondents (91.2%) , willing to assist the delivery of a baby
bom to a positive mother with HIV/AIDS but (67.5%) of the respondent feeling to
worried about caring for pregnant women with HIV/AIDS.
Conclusion:
The study revealed that the nurse/midwives had adequate HIV/AIDS knowledge but. still
had gaps in certain areas. In addition they showed a positive attitude.
