Abstract

All$ll'flGl This research is an attempttv knowthe problem ofthe fragility of the environmentin the arid regions . Almaltama Province was taken as a case study . The study aimed at knowing the factories which may increase the fragility of the environment in the study area . At thus determine the situation of this area , vis — a- vis the areas which are affected by fragility, knowing the environmental impact of the fragility of space and how to adapt to the fragility of the area . The study depended on the descriptive- analytic — statistical approach . Data were collected in field work, through a questionnaire which was distributed to most of the villages of the study area .Other techniques included observation and consulting oflicial papers and scientific reports. The study exposed that the study area , is located within the fragile dry or arid lands ,This made it assume a non — stable ecological system so, it gets affected by any change in its natural and human environmental balance. This had resulted in poverty , destitution, scarce resources and the degradation ofservices . The study contained five chapters which handled the various aspects of the topics ofthc study . At recommended the expansion of the environ- mental studies , to follow ~ up the balance which may occur to the environment and the need to achieve it in the fragile ecological systems and the improve ~ ment of the environmental conditions, to enhance the quality oflife . The most important findings ofthe study are that the location of the study area , in the dry regions , made it suffer drought , the degrade-action of the soil , the erosion of the plant cover, the fluctuation ofrainfall and the occurrence ofnatural disasters; such as , torrents and floods .All this leads to the fragility of place and the full dependence on the natural resources . this in turn , leads to pressure on the environment , which causes its weakness and fragility ; so it become less able to give . Citizens also contribute to causing catastrophes by their misuse of, and pressure on the fragile natural resources . The objective of dealing with the environment ,is to benelic from it in a sustainable manner ; and without attrition of the resources . The fragility ol‘ the environment in the study area , id linked to the state ol‘povert_v which prevails in the area , as a result ol‘ the environmental conditions .
