Abstract

Abstract Press has a great role towards the society through its tackling all the issues and contribution in its treatment. Press became part and parcel of the society whole entity as it is distinguished by its great impact on the individuals‘ conduct in all political, economical and social activities. The printed word has its control over the thoughts a matter which is not availed in other media means. Considering that we are living in information era through human development considering it the top issues of nowadays. The press contributes in awareness raising and enriching the society culture to make the society aware of all the surroundings, besides recognizing its rights and obligations. No doubt press has a pioneering role in development, especially the social aspects. In Sudan, such role is very weak and doesn’t cope with the vital social issues in the Sudanese society. According the author of this thesis - which came under the title (the Role of Press in Society Development Awareness — aims at discussing the issues and find out the ways of strengthening its role towards the society. It is recognized that the Sudanese press concentrates on political, sports and crime issues on the account of social and other issues, despite the fact that most of the problems are a result of the absence of social awareness. The importance of this study lies on the fact that the press is an important tool and has a great impact on social movement as it preserves the social and cultural heritage, besides boosting the values and principles through promoting it in the publication. The study acquires its importance from the possibility of highlighting the role played by the press in sparking the concem and planting the values in the citizens towards the society issue related to human development. The objectives of the study shows the role of press in dealing with the human development issues through the daily newspapers besides emphasizing the importance of readers‘ awareness on their obligations and rights in social development. The assumptions, which represent the axes of the study, suggest that the press should play a great role in raising the awareness through presenting the issues and the follow up of the development issues. It goes without saying that the press is facing several difficulties in conducting its mission towards the society to become a tool of change in the social development.The results of the study show that the university graduates represent considering that they on top of the readers, besides the employees who ‘ are concemed with the political press. The press contributed to some extent to raise the developmental awareness which is one of the assumptions that study attempted to prove that press plays an effective role due to its mobilization in creating the
