Abstract

مستخلص: تناقش هذه الدراسة إمكانية استخدام نظم المعلومات الجغرافية كأحد العلوم المساعدة لعلم الآثار في شتي مراحل العمل الأثري منذ العمليات الاستطلاعية، وأعمال المسوح الأثرية، ثم التنقيب والتوثيق، وسوف يتم عرض وشرح هذا العلم وإمكانية استخدامه في العمل الأثري وتقييم مساهمته في حفظ الوقت والجهد والمال وذلك من خلال تطبيقه والعمل به في هذه الدراسة في مراحل المسوح الأثرية وحفظ المواقع الأثرية وتقييم حالتها ومن ثم إعداد خرائط توضيحية لكل المواقع الأثرية وتقييم حالتها من حيث المحافظة وعدمها، ومناقشة المنافع التي يمكن أن تقدمها مثل هذه التقنيات لعلم الآثار مستقبلا كما تم توضيحها في قائمة نتائج هذه الأطروحة. ويرى الباحث أن أهم النتائج التي توصل إليها وأبرزها الآتي:  منطقة الدراسة غنية بآثار من فترات مختلفة من تاريخ السودان ويمكن أن تلقي أضواء جديدة عن العلاقات بين سكان أواسط السودان والمناطق المجاورة له وبخاصة في عهد الدولة المروية.  استخدام عدد من الطرق العلمية الحديثة يساعد كثيرا في كشف المواقع الأثرية وحصرها، بل وتقديم المساعدة في تفسير وفهم كثير من الأحداث القديمة التي كانت لها دورها في نشوء وازدهار وانهيار الحضارات والثقافات بمختلف أنواعها.

Abstract: The main aims of this study are to test the ability of the use of the Geographic Information System in several stages of field archaeology in Sudan. This includes Exploring, Survey, Excavation, and documentation. It will be done by explaining the Geographic Information System as well as its ability to contribute to saving time, money and human efforts. The field work (survey) conducted by the researcher with aim of using Geographic Information System to construct a data base to serve the purposes of this study. It was also aimed at evaluating the current condition of the archaeological sites and to put them in sites distributional maps. Depending on evaluation, the researcher explained other benefits that can be offered by GIS as a tool in the future of archaeology. The researcher then mentioned the conclusions he reached to. Finally he stated the suggestions he arrived at; the most important of which are:  The study area is a rich area by a variety of historical material of most of the ancient periods of Sudan and reflects the importance of the region especially during the Meroitic periods.  The use of many deferent techniques in archaeology helping in exploring, documenting the archaeological sites and also in explanation ancient culture and historical events.
