dc.description.abstractAbstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of using multimedia 1I1 academic achievement in chemistry for the second year students at the secondary schools in Omdurman, Sudan. The main question of the study is: Is there any statistically significant difference in the achievement of the students in chemistry due to the method of teaching?. The population of the study consisted from all second year female students at the training school of the Faculty of Education, University of Khartoum (Ahmed Bashir Alabadi Secondary School for Girls) for the academic year 2007/2008,whith a total of (180) female students distributed into three classes. The sample of the study consisted of (60) students selected randomly and assigned to an experimental group and a control group. The first one studied the educational subject ( The Periodic Table of Elements ) using Multimedia whereas the second group studied it traditionally. each group consisted of (30) students. The researcher designed a priori test for the experimental and control group to measure the previous achievement of the students m chemistry as well as to know whether the two groups are comparable or equivalent. A posteriori test was also been prepared for the experimental group using modern method of teaching (Multimedia ) for four weeks. The validity of the two test was checked by consulting the referees in the specialization. As for the reliability coefficients, this was calculated for the two test from a pilot sample. The Correlation coefficient for each is 0.87 and is statistically significant, indicating that the two tests are very reliable. The results of two tests are recorded and the descriptive statistics(arithmetic means and standard deviations) are calculated, and consequently the t-test is used to know where there -is any statistically significant difference between the two tests. The results showed that the experimental and the control groups are comparable and equivalent before using the modern method of teaching, though there are not the same after using the Multimedia. The result showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups and this difference is due to the teaching method and for the benefit of using Multimedia. According to the results of study, the researcher recommends the importance of using Multimedia in teaching chemistry, and suggested for more research to cover different topics with different designs in chemistry that can be used at different levels.en_US
