Abstract

Abstract Library Management in Govemment Universities in Jordan and the Relationship with Performance: AnEmpirical Libraries Study/ by Abdelwahab A. Mobaidin; supervisor Dr. Abas E1 ShazaliAwad El karim.- Khartoum: AL Neelien University; Faculty of Arts: Department of Library and Documentation, 2004 This study aimed to diagnose the current performance of government universities libraries in Jordan, to evaluate the level of their managerial functional and to study the relationship between these managerial functions and performance. It also aimed to determine the proper applicable approach to manage these libraries, to suggest 11ow to resolve any contingent problems, and how to handle any technical and managerial developments. The study is conducted on (323) Three hundred twenty three employees in eight government universities libraries of Jordan. Descriptive and analytical statistic techniques have been utilized to analyze the data of the study. Data is generated using interviews and questionnaire. The Alpha chornbach test for the questionnaire was (96.42%) reliability test. The data was analyzed using the (SPSS) to generate ratios, means, standard deviations, simple regressions, multiple regression and analysis of variances to test the hypotheses of the study. There were six main hypotheses to examine the relationship between performance and managerial fimctions and some demographic variables. The results have shown a significant relationship between performance and managerial functions. Performance is influenced by all functions, especially planning. The efficiency of managerial functions is shown to be affected by demographic variables such as academic qualification, specialization, and mangerial level. The results have also shown that most libraries follow functional division of labor, use computers in their activities, and provide the same services although they vary in their levels. The study recommends the hiring of qualified employees, providing special training programs for them, and offering them special seminars, the study also recommends focused attention on managerial functions, especially planning. Finally, the study recommends the adoption of international standards on unifying teclmical work procedures. The participation of libraries managers in setting annual budgets and strategic planning is also recommended.
