Abstract
Abstract
The research aims to recognize post-traumatic stress disorder among the sexuall)
abused and non-abused children from their mother's perspective. This investigation has
been carried out on the light of some variables. including: the duration of abuse. birth
order. level of education. sex and age. 'l‘o achieve the set objectives. the correlation
descriptive method has been applied by the researcher. and the population of the stud)"
consists ofthe mothers ofsexually abused and non-abused children. The sample has been
selected through the complete enumeration method. It comprises 120 mothers. (60) ol
abused and (60) of non-abused children. lhe tool of the study is a scale for measuring
posttraumatic stress disorder designed by the researcher. on the basis of some diagnostic
criteria of l.(‘.D 10. After ensuring its psychometric properties. the scale has been used to
collect the required data from the sample. lhe data has been analyzed through Statistical
Package for Social Sciences SPSS. The researcher has come up with some important
findings. From their motheris viewpoint. posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms among
the sexually abused children are just above a\‘erage. There is no direct correlation between
posttraumatic stress disorder and the period of abuse among the sexually abused children
from their mothers viewpoint. There is a negative correlation between posttraumatic
stress disorder and age among the sexually abused children from their mother's viewpoint.
There is no direct correlation between posttraumatic stress disorder and the level of
education among the sexually abused children from their mother’s viewpoint.
Furthermore. there are no statistically significant differences in posttraumatic stress
disorder among the sexually abused children front their mother’s viewpoint according to
the order of birth. Also. there are no statistically significant differences in posttraumatic
stress disorder among the sexually abused children from their mother's viewpoint
according to the child's sex (M/F). In addition. there are no statistically significant
differences in posttraumatic stress disorder among the sexually abused children from their
mother's viewpoint according to their area of residence. There are statistically significant
differences in posttraumatic stress disorder bcl\\ecn the sexually abused and the rioti-
abused children from their mother’s \ iewpoint. /\t the end ofthe study. the researcher has
proposed sortie useful suggestions and recommendations for further research in this area of
study.
