Abstract

Abstract This research deals with childhood diseases and their effect on social development focusing on malnutrition with special reference to children who suffer malnutrition in Omdurman Teaching hospital, child causalities . The aim of the research is to identify child diseases in general and malnutrition disease in particular. Also the research attempted to cast light on the factors leading to malnutrition disease as well as awareness of families on health and nutrition, and the consequences of malnutrition. The research adopts two methodologies, the descriptive analytic methodology and case study. The research used the structured questionnaire directed to the families of the children who suffer from malnutrition in addition to interviews with the quarter's relevant to the subject of the study. The study used the structured sample which targeted children below five years old who suffer from malnutrition in child casualties, Omdurman Teaching Hospital. The research hypotheses are as follows: There is relation between health awareness in the family and child malnutrition. There is relation between the economic status of the family and the child malnutrition. There is relation between educational level of the family and child malnutrition. Malnutrition effects the process of social and economic development. In the light of the previous hypothesis the study came out with the following results: O O O O The spread of malnutrition among the younger age groups below one year is more than among older age groups. Health awareness plays an important role in effecting malnutrition disease. The prevalence of illiteracy and low educational level has great impact on the infection with malnutrition. The process of social and economic feeding is effected negatively by malnutrition.
