Abstract
Abstract
The present paper aims to explore the correlation between
intelligence and speech disorders among basic level students in Al-
Kamleen Locality. The descriptive method has been applied by the
researcher, and the required data has been collected from a sample which
comprises 200 subjects (100 males and 100 females) selected through the
simple random sampling method. The researcher has applied a scale for
measuring IQ designed by John Raven, and another scale for diagnosing
and measuring speech disorders designed by the researcher. Statistical
Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) has been used to analyze the research
data, with the aid of some statistical methods, including: one sample T-
test, T-test for testing two independent samples, Pearson correlation co-
efficient, Spearman Brown correlation co-efficient and LSD equation.
After processing the data, the researcher came up with a number of
important findings.
The results indicate a low IQ among basic level students with speech
disorders. There is a statistically significant negative correlation between
IQ and the degree of speech disorder among the basic level students with
speech disorders in Al-Kamleen Locality of Al-Jazeera State.
Furthermore, there are no statistically significant differences in IQ among
basic level students with speech disorders in Al-Kamleen Locality of Al-
Jazeera State due to the sex variable (male/female). Also, there is a
statistically significant positive correlation between IQ and the age
variable among the basic level students with speech disorders in Al-
Kamleen Locality of Al-Jazeera State. In addition, there are statistically
significant differences in IQ due to the level of the parent’s education
among the students with speech disorders. A statistically significant
correlation has been detected between IQ and the number of siblings
among the specified sample. Finally, there is a statistically significant
correlation between IQ and the birth order among basic level students
with speech disorders in Al-Kamleen Locality of Al-Jazeera.
At the end of the study, the researcher has proposed some useful
suggestions and recommendations for further future studies
