Evaluation of Pediatric Nurses’ Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Nursing Ethics and Professionalism in Khartoum Locality Pediatric governmental Hospitals

Abstract
Background: Professionalism is demonstrated through a foundation of clinical competence,
communication skills, and ethical understanding, upon which is built the aspiration to and wise
application of the principles of professionalism: excellence, humanism, accountability, and
altruism. Nursing ethics is an important part of nursing profession to keep nurses accountable of
patient care in frame of laws.
Objective:_The aim of this study was to assess nurse's knowledge and attitude regarding nursing
professionalism and nursing ethics.
Methods: This descriptive, cross sectional study was conducted in Khartoum locality pediatric
hospitals that selected randomly according to govem map, study sample composed of 193 staff
nurse who working in emergency department, pediatric units, and wards. Data were collected
using self administered questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS version 21.
Results: The study results revealed that 98.5% of studied nurses had good knowledge regarding
nursing professionalism and 56.2% had positive attitude regarding nursing professionalism, also
there was insignificant statistically relation between nurses knowledge and age 29.2%, 24.0%,
18.8%, 28.1% and Qualification 50.3%, 45.1%, 4.7% respectively and between working
experience 32.6%, 45.8%,21.6% and year of experience 18.8%, 81.2% respectively.
Conclusion: The study revealed that nurses working in pediatric hospitals had good knowledge
and positive attitude regarding professionalism.
