Abstract

Abstract This study examines the collections development policy in libraries of private universities in order to identify influential factors to active better results. The researcher used historical and descriptive both analytical and survey methods . for evaluating the current policy used in private universities in Khartoum state. ln addition to questionnaires and interviews. Samples are chosen out of four libraries of the universities. The study comes to the following findings : 0 Collection development policy has its insights particularly in identifying the needed types of the collection. Budget distribution and weakening personal decision.

0 Library size dentifies the types and size of the collection that should be possessed. 0 Continuous changes in the syllabuses influence the policy as it dentifies types of collections and the number of new added subjects. The study states the following recommendations: 0 There should be written policy in all universities. 0 Libraries should be established upon standard criteria. 0 Comprehensive census for information resource should be constructed in order to help providing the needed collections
