Abstract

Abstract The Sudan Republic Al -neelain University , College of Arts/ Postgraduate Studies Department of Documents and Libraries Title of Thesis: Computerization of the Library of Islamic University at Qaza Strip through the Perspective of the Library Employees “Developmental Study” Researcher: Ahmed yosef mosa rizqa Supervisor: Prof. Radia Adam Molmmmed Date: 2006 This study aimed at identifying the nature of work at the libraryof the Islamic University at Qaza Strip, the quality of measures and computerized services, and the tasks and characteristics of(Al Rashid) System utilized there. It also aimed at studying and evaluating the computerized implications and their ability to achieve the goals and to satisfy the actual needs of the library, in addition to satisfying the users’ needs and the required tasks of the system as well as the impact of the system on the library employees. To achieve this goal, the researcher has conducted a study that consisted of eight chapters. The first chapter has discussed both information and information technology and its effect on libraries, librarians and users. It has also tackled information systems, artificial intelligence. The second chapter has dealt with communication and communication technology. The third chapter has reviewed university libraries, the relationship between universities and their libraries, and the problems of university libraries. The fourth chapter has focused on the computerization of libraries, constraints of using computers in libraries, results of using computerized system in libraries and need of changing traditional system into computerized one. It also discussed the most famous and available systems such as: MINISIS,‘ CDS\ISIS. The fifth chapter has demonstrated the library of Islamic University, stages of its development, its structure, its aims, its services and its sections. It has also identified (Al Rashid) system, its qualities and how to deal with it step by step. The sixth chapter has contained the methodology of the study, through designing a questionnaire that aimed at investigating the nature of work at the library of Islamic University. The approach of study (survey descriptive case study) was allocated. The seventh chapter has contained the results of the study and the explanation of these results. Some of these results are: 1. the system helps to reach the required information. 2. it contributes in demonstrating information through the internet. 3. it allows to construct or delete new fields. 4. it helps to develop the library service through presenting reports The eight chapter has contained the results of the study. There are some general results and some specific ones that are related to (Al Rashid) system. Some recommendations, that aimed at solving some of the system problems, were stated. Some of these recommendations are: 1. Developing the performance of (Al Rashid) system as r much as possible. ' 2. Solving the problems of lending service. 3. Attempting to establish local and international cooperating networks. 4. Developing the system so as to match with international measures. 5. To make high efficient workers and to diversify the efficiency to satisfy the expected features in the future to the library. 6. To complete the shortage in the bibliographical data for the information vessels of Arabic and foreign information that available in the library such as ( Entry, Keywords, classification numbers) and adding these data to the new computerization system (al Rashid)
