Mother’s knowledge and Attitudes Regarding Common Behavioral Disorders among Preschool Children in Toti Island Khartoum State, Sudan2018

Abstract

In developing countries 50 percent of the population consists of children. The well being of this great population is significantly influential on the future health and flourishing of the society and next generations. It is therefore necessary to focus an increased attention on children’s mental and physical health in order to take essential measures for preventing and treating psychological and behavioral disorders. Behavioral disorders are common debilitating problems that cause many difficulties for children and their families. A descriptive cross-sectional community base study design. Aimed to assess mother’ knowledge and attitudes regarding Common behavioral disorder among preschool children in Toti Island Khartoum Sudan. This study enrolled 100 mothers who have preschool children from community. Data collected by structured questionnaire which consisted of three parts. First part deals with participant profile, second part to assess knowledge of mother regarding common behavioral problems and third part to assess attitude of mother. sample collocated used single cluster sampling and analyzed computerized using statistical package for social science version 24. Ethical approval obtained from ALneelain University, ALneelain committee; publicity committee in Toti Island. Most important results revealed less than third of participant in age group>32 yrs, half was graduated, majority was married and more than half had low family income, more than half had poor knowledge regarding management of temper tantrum and etiology, management of pica, less than two third knew the age of normal control of bladder and definition of pica also two third of participant have good attitude regarding enuresis and more than half have bad attitude toward temper tantrum. Also the finding of this study revealed that there were significant association between mother’ attitude toward enuresis and participant profile (level of education) and no association between mother attitude toward enuresis and birth order of her child .Also there were no association between mother’ attitude regarding temper tantrum and participant profile (level of education, birth order. Based on the findings the study concluded that majority of the mothers have poor knowledge regarding behavioral problem among preschool children.
