Abstract
Abstract
The study area is a part of red sea mountains, it is located in Gebeit Al inaadin
area inred sea state, NE Sudan. about l48Kn1 from Port Sudan via tannaes
road up to Mohamed Goal village, then the route turns western direction in a
dusty and rocky roads and hills about l05km up to Gebeit Al maadin Area.
The area is located between longitudes 36° 19' 30" - 36° 19' 40" N and
latitudes 21" 03' 45" - 21° 03' 25" E.
The main purpose of this study is to specify the geo-engineering features of
the proposed mine area which will guide to the most eligible designing of the
I1'1l11€ V
Geologically the study area is located in the Nubian shield. The Nafirdeib
group represents the most common lithologieal Units. To achieve the
objective of the study, the work started with drill four bore holes to make
geoteehnieal investigations that include: Core recover}/(CR), rock duality
designation(RQD), Extend, Spacing, Opening, lnfilling and Roughness. All
the above geoteehnieal infomiation mentioned in the supplementary papers of
this study.
The mechanical testing for rock is done which include point load test and
unconfined compression test.
According to the field & laboratory investigation there are three types of the
rock masses in the area include: 1\ Strong rock mass (Andesite mass) 2\
Medium strong 1nass(Ankel*ite mass) 3\ very weak rock mass(ASh tuft).
The Rock mass rating (RMR) classification method indicates that the
Andesite located between 40 to 60, which is fair. The Ankerite located
between 30 to 50, which is fair While the Ash tuff show 20 to 40, Poor.
This study recoininended that more drilling boreholes ore required to assure
the peifection and accuracy of the mention rcsults, Kinematic analysis for tlle
proposed mine area should be done to guide in forecasting of potential
collapses, therefore the necessary adjustment should be done. Another
classification technique is also required for the accuracy of rock classification
of the rocky masses (Q system) for more accuracy.
