Quality of Services in Community Pharmacy in Adherence to National Good Pharmacy Practices Guidelines in Bahri Locality- 2017

Abstract

Introduction: The principles of pharmaceutical care are embedded in the concept of Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP). Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) in community and hospital pharmacy setting is a crucial standard for pharmacy services.GPP is poorly applied in community pharmacies worldwide. The study was undertaken to investigate the quality of services in the community pharmacists in adherence to National GPP Guidelines in Bahri locality - Sudan. Methodology: Cross sectional study was conducted among clusters of community pharmacies in Bahri locality.150 community pharmacies were investigated from the total 250 community pharmacies, a self-administered questionnaire for pharmacists and check list to investigate community pharmacy premises were used for data collection. Data were analyzed by SPSS version24. Results: The quality of services in community pharmacies was low (˂ 50%) in compliance with National GPP standards. The assessment of pharmacy premises, facilities and equipment reported 48.6% percentage of compliance to standard and the finding of assessing of human resources showed that the compliance of pharmacists to standards was 3.2 from 7(45.7%).The Total score of assessment of services provided in the pharmacies was the lowest compliance score in the study 3.1(44.3%). Conclusion: The adherence of community pharmacies to National GPP standards was poor .The pharmacies adherence to premises, facilities and equipment standard was low. Human resources of pharmacies show poor adherence to National GPP standards (45.7%).Services provided in pharmacies are not performed (44.3%) according to National GPP standards Recommendations: Interventions are needed to improve the quality of premises, facilities, equipment, human resources and provided services in pharmacies.
