Abstract
Abstract
The level of Intelligence and its relationship with
categorization of Things among pupils in basic education in
Libya and the Sudan
The aim of this research was to identify the relationship between the
intelligence and categorization of things ( relational and abstract ) in
Libya ( Zavia city ) and Sudan (Khartoum state )for the academic year
2007-2008. To achieve this aim the descriptive method was employed.
The research sample was made up of ( 800 ) primary school pupils
( from Grade 4-to Grade 7 ) aged 9 to 12 ( half boys 50% and half girls
50% ) as well as half Libyans and half Sudanese. They were subjected to
the test of Standard Progressive Matrices, it is ameasure of general
intelligence, reasoning, problem Solving, as well as it is a culture free
test and the classification methods test ( relational and abstract ). The
results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between
the intelligence and categorization of things in terms of relations. The
relationship between the intelligence and categorization of things
abstractly was negatively significant. The results also showed that there
is a Significant differences in the classification of things according to the
intelligence it was in favour of higher- intelligence subjects in the
relational classification, and it was in favour of lower-intelligence
subjects in abstract classification. The results also showed significant
differences in classification process between children in Libya and the
Sudan. Children in Libya classified relationally, while children in Sudan
classified abstractly. The results also showed significant differences
between the intelligence in Libya and Sudan, the results where in favour
of the children in Libya. The results also showed significant differences
in favour of the children in Sudan in speed of response to the test of
Standard Progressive Matrices. The results showed that there no
difference in the sex variable in classifying things. The results also
showed that there is a significant difference in the intelligence in favour
of girls. Finall, several recommendations and suggestions for further studies
were reached.
