dc.description.abstractBackgr0und:- Pre-eclampsia is a disorder of pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure and large amounts of protein in the urine Objectives: TO assess knowledge and practice of nurses regarding severe pre eclampsia Methodology: This is descriptive cross-sectional hospital based study designto assess knowledge and practice of nurses regarding severe pre eclampsia in Khartoum state hospitals in antenatal ward2Ol4 The data was collected through interview questionnaire containing of (15) questions to assess nurses ' knowledge and observational checklist containing of (10) steps to assess nurses’ practice and was analyzed by SPSS ( statistical package for social science) version( 19) there are 35 nurses working in antenatal ward during period of study agree to fill questionnaire Result: The nurses have inadequate knowledge about severe pre eclampsia represent (44.2%) but Majority of them knew the definition of severe preeclampsia, represent ( 88.6%), (97.%) of nurses check BP after giving anti hypertensive drugs , (80%) weight patients daily but (33%) knew about investigation and their practice(61.9%) Conclusion: The overall general knowledge of nurses about severe preeclampsia was fair but their knowledge regarding causes was good ,and their knowledge about risk factor was poor. The study found that the knowledge regarding magnesium sulfate toxicity was good and had adequate knowledge about definition of severe pre eclampsiaand their practice was good. Recommendations: Ministry of health must emphasize on education programs to improve knowledge of care deliver to the patients ,and importance of continuous assessment to the nurses knowledge and practice to detect the deficiency in knowledge and practice as soon as possible . Nurses should revive their knowledge and maximize it to reach the competence in practice.en_US
