Performance of Scrub Nurses in terms of Surgical Hand washing at Khartoum State Teaching Hospitals - (Sudan)

Abstract

Abstract Introduction: Surgical scrubbing or hand scrubbing is an essential part of antisepsis In order to reduce the microbial load of the resident and transient flora so as to suppress their growth or re- growth for as long as required Objectives: this study aims at assessing the Technical Performance of Scrub Nurses in terms of Surgical Hand Hygiene in the Operating Rooms. Methodology: Thiswasdescriptive – cross – sectional – hospital based study carried in the Teaching Hospitals of Khartoum, Omdurman and Khartoum North., the study population are all scrub nurses who work in the main theatre scrub nurses the sample was total coverage(92) were successfully observed check list by using done properly not done properly not done were analysis using Statistical program for social science (SPSS) The inform frequencies and percentage. Results: A lot of scrub nurses complied with the acceptable level of performance regarding the application of the Protective Techniques, but some scrub nurses did not use antiseptic gel (97,8%) and use antiseptic soap not properly (96,7%). Most of the scrub nurses did not perform the practice of keeping hand and elbows away from the body properly (68,5%) and also did not abide to the duration of scrubbing (88%) .None of thescrub nurses used the dry technique (100%). Recommendation: - Standard Techniques of Surgical Hand Washing Guideline should be delegated for scrub nurses - availability of important supplies that facilitate surgical hand wash is important المستخلص المقدمه نظافة الأيدى لأغراض الجراحة هو جزء أساسى من التعقيم. الغرض من هذة الممارسة هو تقليل الكم الجرثومى للأحياء الدقيقة العابرة و المستوطنة و ذلك بتثبيط نموها أو إنبعاثه طيلة زمن التعقييم المطلوب الاهداف : هدفت هذه الدراسه إلى تقييم الممارسة العملية لتعقيم أيدي محضري العمليات في غرف العمليات الجراحية.فيما يتعلق بغسل الايدي المنهجيه: استخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفي ومن ثم تم استخدام استمارة الملاحظة كآلية لجمع المعلومات ثم برنامج الحاسوب (SPSS) في تحليل البيانات. تكون مجتمع الدراسة من (29) محضر عملية وجميعهم يعملون في مستشفيات الخرطوم وأم درمان والخرطوم بحري التعليمية. النتائج : الكثير مِنْ محضري العمليات التزموا بالمستوى المقبول لغسيل الايدي والتقنيات الوقائيه .لكن البعض منهم لم يلتزم بستعمال الصابون السائل والعادي لغسيل الايدي بالطريقه المخصصه له بنسبة%. 97.8 الى% 96,7على التوالي اغلب محضري العمليات لم يلتزموا بتقنية ابعاد الايدي بالمستوى المطلوب بنسبة 68,5 وايضا لم يلتزموا بالفترة الزمنيه بنسبة% 88 بالاضا فه الى عدم تجفيف الايدي بنسبة %100 -التوصيات : التقنيات القياسيةفي توجيهِ الغسيل اليدويِ الجراحيِ - توفر التجهيزاتِ المهمةِ في الغسيل اليدوي الجراحيَ مهمُ
