Knowledge and Attitude of the Primary School Teachers` regarding Type 1Daibetus Mellitus in Basic Government Schools in east Madani Locality

Abstract

Abstract Background: School teachers are potentially effective personnel, who could influence the attitude and behavior of school children via their knowledge. They can play a critical role in the monitoring of diabetic school children. In order to ensure that such student diabetic at school achieve their full capabilities while participating in academic and various school activities. Objective: To assess knowledge and attitude of primary school teacher regarding type 1diebetes mellitus in governmental primary schools. Methodology: Descriptive cross sectional facility base study design conducted at east Madani locality in four governmental primary schools. The tool of data collection was structure questionnaire. This questionnaire consisted of three parts. The estimated sample size was 80 primary school teachers chosen as simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed computerize used statistical package for social science version 20 and presented through figure and tables. Results: Most important result of this study showed that more than half of participant 52% had fair knowledge about definition of type 1diabetes and two third 60% of participant had good knowledge about signs and symptom, more than third 36% of participants had poor knowledge about kind of diet. Also find out that majority 83% of participants had fair knowledge about behave of hypoglycemia and majority 77% of participants had fair knowledge about behave of hyperglycemia .In addition, majority of participants 77% agreed that type 1 diabetes need special diet. Conclusion: the study concluded that over all knowledge of participants had fair and there were no significant association between level of knowledge and education Recommendation: This study recommend that to the ministry of education would provide activities and programs to increase knowledge of primary school teachers about type 1diabetes and would provide special training courses to them about how to deal with type 1diabetes. Also encourage school health program in all primary school to cover all issues related to type 1diabetes. And Further research about the topic.

ملخص البحث الخلفية: معلمو المدارس هم اكثر من يحتمل أن يكونوا فعالين ، و يمكنهم التأثير على سلوك أطفال المدارس من خلال معرفتهم التي يمكن ان تلعب دورا فعالا في مراقبه الاطفال المصابين بالسكري في المدارس من اجل ضمان تحقيق قدراتهم الكامله اثناء المشاركه في الانشطة الاكاديميه والانشطه المدرسيه المختلفه. الهدف: دراسة معرفة وسلوك معلمو المدارس الابتدائية فيما يتعلق بالنوع الأول من مرض السكري في المدارس الحكوميه . المنهجية: دراسة وصفية مقطعيه أجريت في المدارس الابتدائية لمحلية مدني الكبرى. كانت أداة جمع البيانات هي الاستبيان ويتكون الاستبيان من ثلاثة أجزاء. كان حجم العينة المقدر هو 80 مدرسًا في المرحله الابتدائيه تم اختيارهم بأسلوب بسيط لأخذ العينات العشوائية وقد تم تحليل البيانات حوسبة تستخدم حزمة الإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية الإصدار 20 وقدم من خلال الاشكال والجداول. النتائج : أظهرت أهم نتائج هذه الدراسة أن أكثر من نصف المشاركين 52 ٪ لديهم معرفة حول تعريف مرض السكري 60 ٪ لديهم معرفة جيدة عن علامات مرض السكري .أيضا أكثر من ثلث المشاركين 36% كان لديهم معرفة ضعيفة بنوع النظام الغذائي للطفل المصاب بالسكري ، واكتشف أيضًا أن غالبية المشاركين 83٪ لديهم معرفة عادلة للتدخل في حاله هبوط نسبه سكر الدم. وأن غالبية المشاركين 77٪ لديهم معرفة عادلة للتدخل في ارتفاع نسبة السكر في الدم. بالإضافة إلى ذلك ، 77٪ من المشاركين يواقف فيما يتعلق بدور الغذاء للسيطرة على مرض السكري. الخلاصة: بناءً على النتائج التي توصلت إليها هذه الدراسة ، أكثر من نصف المشاركين لديهم معرفة عادلة حول النوع الاول من مرض السكري ، حيث وافق أكثر من نصف من المشاركين على السلوك الصحيح حول مرض السكري. كان هناك ارتباط كبير بين مستوى المعرفة ومستوى السلوك . التوصية: بناءً على نتائج هذه الدراسة ، نوصي وزارة التعليم بتوفير أنشطة وبرامج لزيادة معرفة معلمي المدارس الابتدائية حول النوع الأول من مرض السكر وتوفير دورات تدريبية خاصة لمعلمو المدارس الابتدائية حول كيفية التعامل مع مرضى السكري. تشجيع برنامج الصحة المدرسية في جميع المدارس الابتدائية على تغطية جميع القضايا المتعلقة بصحة الطفل. ومزيد من البحث حول هذا الموضوع
