Abstract

Abstract This research aims to study the social and psychological factors and its relationship to psychological depression in the elderly. the researcher used the descriptive analytical method so that the size of the sample of (75 elderly) of sheltered elderly in Khartoum State (61) males, (14) females. They choose in intentionality way. The research tools consisting of testing the social and psychological factors leading to depression and the style of the interview and observation. The researcher used different way of statistical processes such as: the averages, the percentage, the equation of Cronbach's alpha and t-test for two independent samples, and analysis of variance. The statistical processing has been done by the computer (SPSS). The study find out many results as follows: l. There is an statistically significant relationship between the social and psychological factors and the incidence of depression in the community of the current study. 2. There are an statistically significant differences between males and females in the level of social factors (for females). 3. There are no significant differences between males and females in the level of psychological factor. 4. There are no significant differences between males and females in the level of economic factor. 5. There are no significant differences between age groups and social and psychological factor. The study recommendations: 1 / State must promote Islamic values and connecting community members to this values. 2 / Encourage people to do good and charity to the elderly. 3 / reconsideration ofthe Civil Service Law and Social Security in Sudan at the age that which labors or worker retire, to be associated with the effort not age until utilized from some elderly people who are unable to work. As well as to allow retired to work in government and private institutions if he wantsl, While working to provide employment opportunities for them.
