Assessment of binocular vision services in optometric centers at Khartoum state

Abstract

Background: Binocular vision anomalies are often detected, diagnosed, and treated during an optometric eye examination, because there is significant relationship between refractive errors and muscular balance, therefore the assessment of binocular vision is an important part of estimating the refractive state of the eye. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 optometric centers distributed at Khartoum state from three localities (Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman). Aim: To assess binocular vision services in optometric centers at Khartoum state of Sudan. Materials and methods: the study included 100 (55%) optometric centers which distributed in Khartoum state, the data was collected by using a questionnaire. Results: the data were analyzed using SPSS program. And the results showed are following: - Seventy eight percent of optometrists in optometric centers were specialist second degree, with a bachelor degree. And 51% of them have general specialist. - Thirty nine percent of optometrist in optometric centers have training course in binocular vision assessment. - Seventy nine percent of optometrist in those centers has no special data form of binocular vision assessment. And 89% not assess the binocularity during refraction examination. - seventy eight percent of optometrist in optometric centers referred the patients to the other place. 92.30% of them referred because there is no instrument and 7.70% because inability to use instrument. - Sixty one percent of the causes of lack binocular vision assessment instrument is due to a high cost of those instruments. Key words: Binocular vision, Refractive errors, Optometric centers الخلاصة تمهيد: يتم إكتشاف وتشخيص وعلاج حالات إعتلال الرؤية الموحده بالعينين اثتاء إجراء قياس النظر, وذلك لوجود علاقة واضحه بين وجود الاخطاء الإنكساريه وتوازن عضلات العين. ويعتبر تقييم الرؤيه الموحده بين العينين جزء مهم في تقييم الحاله الإنكساريه للعين. صممت هذه الدراسه كدراسه عرضيه شملت 100 مركز من مراكز البصريات الخاصه التى تتوزع داخل ولاية الخرطوم بمحلياتها الثلاثة الخرطوم, بحري, امدرمان. هدف الدراسه: لتقييم اجراء فحص الرؤيه الموحده بالعينين داخل المراكز البصريه بولاية الخرطوم. المواد والطرق: تم إختيار عينه عشوائيه تتكون من100 (55%) مركز داخل ولاية الخرطوم , تم توزيع الاستبيان عليها. النتائج: تم تحليل البيانات المتحصل عليها من خلال الإستبيان بإستخدام برنامج التحليل الإحصائي SSPS. وكانت النائج كالأتى: - ثمانيه وسبعون بالمائه من اختصاصي البصريات بالمراكز الخاصه خريجى بكلاريوس علوم البصريات بتخصص عام وتصنيف مهنى إختصاصي ثانى. - تسعه وثلاثون بالمائه من اختصاصي البصريات بالمراكز الخاصه اخّذ كورسات تدريبيه لتقييم الرؤيه الموحده بالعينين. - تسعه وسبعون بالمائه من اختصاصي البصريات بالمراكز الخاصه لا يملك فورمه مخصصه لتقييم الرؤيه الموحده بالعينين و 89% منهم لايقييم الرؤية الموحده بالعينين. - ثمانيه وسبعون بالمائه من اختصاصي البصريات بالمراكز الخاصه يقوم بتحويل المرضي لجهات اخرى لتلقي العلاج. 92.30% من اسباب التحويل عدم وجود اجهزه و7.70% لعدم القدره علي استخدامها. - إحدى وستون بالمائه من اسباب نقص الاجهزة بالمراكز البصريه التكلفه الماليه العاليه. الكلمات الإفتتاحيه: الرؤيه الموحده بالعينين, الأخطاء الإنكساريه, المراكز البصريه.
