Abstract

AB§TRA€T Elnilien University Post-Graduate College Faculty of Arts Library and Archives Department Title: The Role of Library in Serving Broadcast Programmes Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation case study Student: Asma Eltayeb Mustafa Hamed Supervisor : Ennisr Abdul Fadiel Selim Degree: Master of Library and Archives Science This research aims to : 0 Define the role played by special libraries in serving governmental, scientific and social institution. 6 Draw attention to the role and importance of special libraries in achieving the goals of these institutions. Q Encourage traditional libraries to make use of digital technology. ’ To achieve the goals of the research and define the special libraries, and its importance for the governmental institutions, historical method was used. The survey method was, also, used to explain the situation of Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation (SNBC) library and the role of special libraries in audio media. Two questionnaire was used for two samples: 1. Selective sample for those who work in Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation library. 2. Selective sample for those who work in Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation in general. Broadcasting was also used to analyze and measure the role played by libraries in serving broadcasting programmes. In addition to aforementioned methods, comparative method was. Also used to compare Sudan Nation Broadcasting library system with standard systems. In addition to instruction and conclusion, the research consists of four chapters. A. Chapter one : is a theoretical frame which includes definitions and historical background about special libraries. _ B. Chapter two explain the relation between libraries and audio media. C. Chapter three is the history of Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation and its library. D. Chapter four analyzing and assessing of information of the questionnaires. The study was come to some results which are : w The Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation library is biggest audio library in Sudan. 0 The library has no specialized staff O The library procedures used in library material is not suitable compared with specific standards. 6 There is no backup copies of library material. According to the results, the researcher has come to some recommendations, which are: v Librarians should appointed in such institutions, so as to push the work forwards. @ Copies of library material should be kept as backup to protect and secure them. Q The traditional library should, also, be develop to integrate with the audio media library.
