Abstract
Abstract
The topic of the current dissertation is the impact of social development
during post- armed conflict on Sudan construction ( field study at south
kordofan in the period from 2005 - to 2011). The problem of the study is in
recognizing the type and amount of change that the developmental projects
achieved in citizens life ,also to figure out the correlation between development and
the second escalation of dispute.
The importance of the study is due to the importance of social
development to the conflict affected communities, and also because the study
highlights on roles played by the concemed institutions where the researcher
identified the positive and negative sides of their practices.
The main objective of this dissertation is to identify the role of the govemment,
national and international organizations, and the oil companies in the area in social
development and their role in tacking the side effects of armed conflict. It is aimed at
putting a social development parameter that can be developed in the future to conduct
more in-depth studies and come up with recommendations and proposals to help
workers in the field of development in communities affected by armed conflict.
Both quantitative and qualitative methods are used in this study. Moreover, several
tools have been used for data collection, such as, interviews, observation,
questionnaires and discussion groups. Based in the obtained and analyses data, the
study has concluded with the following results:
1.Although the government has contributed in the development, its weak contribution
has led to a minor improvement in the living conditions of the people in terms of the
service, health sector, and education. And that, its contribution in providing awareness
and rehabilitation programs in lower proportion has led to the reduction in the
usefulness of these service to only 10%.
2.The development programs did 110t provide equal opportunities of participation for
the community members, and that no real improvement in the human rights.
3.The organization working in the area had clear role in social development,
especially in the field of education, health, counseling and training.
4.The oil companies have contributed to the development, but the contribution was
weak, and with a negative impact ill some areas, which led to escalating the tribal
conflicts.
S.The development services were not fairly distributed, which reduced its usefulness,
however, there was no direct relationship between the outbreak of armed conflict and
development interventions.
Finally, the study recommended that, there is an urgent need for planning, and the
importance of applying a bottom up planning method of participation. There is also a
necessity to take care of education and the use of educational programs for the
treatment of the side effects of armed conflict and much attention should be paid to
the veterinary consoling, agriculture training, rehabilitation and attention to women
and children, and activating the role of social service and the rule of law.
