Abstract

Abstract Rain is an important factor in the water cycle, on which agricultural seasons depend, in addition to the water storage in dams and reservoirs. Hence, the present study is mainly based on the statistical analysis of rainfall data, where standard deviation, arithmetic averages, average and coefficient of variation are used, in addition to time series in Gedarif area during the period (1904 to 2010)This is because Gedarif is known to be the grain silo for the whole country . I The study shows that rainfall in Gedarif area is characterized by fluctuations from one year to another. The study includes Rainfall data analysis. It reviews the previous studies that are relevant to the research topic or the study area. It also in cludes the concept and the importance of the climatology specifically rainfall to life. Moreover, the practical importance of the climate in, life provokes the attention of researchers and scientists, particularly within the framework of climatic change. The study shows Impact geographical features on rainfall. also The research also reflects its natural characteristics in terms of the importance of the rainfall, and also the economic aspect of the area, mainlly mechanized rain-fed sector. The study focuses on the characteristics and nature of the rainfall and also shows the monthly and annual changes based on the standard deviation, which ascertains the fact that rainfall is fluctuating from one year to another according to the trend line, and moving averages in which the angle of declination and the angle of elevation have been measured for the sake of a better comparison. It is also found that the season wet in the study area drought periods are short and discontinue, the annual rainfall averages is 627mm. which quite enough for medium-term sorghum. Moreover, the study has touched on the calculation of the isomers which revealed that August ranks first as a rainy month. As for the study of the cumulative values, it is found out that the annual value satisfies the plant needs (C.W.R) particularly sorghum except for the drought periods. Finally, the research has arrived at some important results such as: rainfall in the study area during the period (1975-2010) is of least deviation in terms of the annual amounts of rains. The study also provided some recommendations, the most important of which is to benefit from the excess rain water in other activities.
