Abstract

Abstract The core objectives of thisthesis are , first, to examine the evolution of the political and economic relations between Sudan and Egypt during the period ( 1956 — 2005 ) , second , to investigate how the colonial policies negatively affected on the political relations between the two countries , and how they enhanced political instability in both states. - Data required for the research were collected from primary and various secondary sources . To achieve its objectives various methodological approaches were adopted , these included historical , descriptive , regional and quantitative approaches . _ The main findings of the study are : 1- political and economic relations between the two countries were complicated by considerable friction over boundaries ( Halayib Triangle ) , and the long standing desire of Egypt to secure her vital interest in the Nile waters . 2- the future of the bilateral relations between the tow countries lies in the need to reconcile conflicts and enter into negotiations , to resolve all the pending problems , to overpass the complexities in their relations which occur from time to time and to endeavor to reach a better framework for political and economic cooperation . This because of the two states represents strategic depth for the other. ‘
