Abstract
Abstract
The service sector is considered the basis for the urban society facade;
this is because of the distinct characteristics of Khartoum state from the
remaining states of the Sudan as a society of knowledge of multiple cultures,
customs and traditions. This society is coming from different spatial and
geographical sites in terms of form and quantity. Therefore, it is incumbent
to deal with this mixture for provision of service in tandem with these
migrations from the states and adaptation of the markets with the expected
capacity for each financial year, for the realisation of welfare to the
consumer and the trader, besides, putting into consideration the strategic
plans for the different coming generations.
Together with the technological development in the filed of
infonnation and communication technology, it has been incumbent for the
existence of a mechanism for coping with these developments and to be
engaged in the management of the market in the technological manner which
is liable for developing according to the social conditions which are
manifested in the population census and the migrations to the capital of the
Sudan etc.
This study aims at using the geographical information system in the
management of the economic, social, administrative and areal markets
information so as to enable the decision-makers to manage the fees and
services for the maintenance of the public property and providing the best
services to the dealers. A geographical information system was built to
provide spatial data of the markets sites and the trade shops inside the
market and the relevant trading sites, to facilitate the work of the
administrative units, thus controlling the service in the process of the
(presentation, collection and development) and the treatments according to
the annual circular of the Legislative Assembly representing the prescribed
items of collection, conducting the possible analysis such as knowing natural
phenomena surrounding the market or the trading shops in special manner
which ‘is helping the sen/ice provider ‘for its efficient management with
appropriate human resources of less cost and more development. Likewise
descriptive data manifested in the data base of the states, localities,
administrative units, markets, trade shops, traders, collectors and the due
payments items, in addition to digital maps which are linked with the whole
tables of the descriptive data base.
To complete the requirements of this study data were collected
through the personal interviews and the filed visits to the relevant authorises
for building the models which were used in the system with the (descriptive
and spatial) data base, which helped in building a geographical data base
which its data were represented in the _digital map which was used in the
geographical application.
In this study, the preparation of the digital geographical maps was
achieved by using the Arc Gis 10 program, and benefitting from the
possibilities of its tools in the geographical retrieval of the paper maps.
These tools are represented in the process of drawing, editing and building
digital maps in the form of layers, where each layer represents spatial
geographical phenomenon linked to the descriptive data bases. And for
building the information system an Oracle program was used for building
and managing of a data base of the state markets and screens for the input of
the descriptive data related there to.
