    Difficulties of Using English Morphemes Experienced by Sudanese Learners at University Level A case study of Second Year English language students at the faculty of arts ( Al-Neelain University)

    Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the difficulties of using English morphemes experienced by Sudanese learners at university level, who are majoring in English language. The informants who participated in the study were fifty students 35 are males and 15 are females at Al-Neelain University, Faculty of Arts, Second Year during the academic year 2011-2012. The data collection tool was a written test, which tested the areas of difficulties expected by the researcher such as the misuse of the -s' possessive and the s- for the third person singular (childeren's books) and misuse of the negative morphemes ( inhonest) . The test composed of five questions covering the area where the students are more likely to commit mistakes. The study is divided into five chapters: Chapter one presents the research problem, significance objectives, questions and limitation of the study. Chapter two reports the literature review of English morphology. Chapter three deals with the methodology of the research. Chapter four concerns with data analysis and discussion. Chapter five presents the findings of the study conclusion and offers recommendation. The students' test results revealed that errors in the area of using English morphemes are due to overgeneralization of certain morphological rules (broadcasted) , omission (Ali write), addition (fishes) and from the use of incorrect prefixes (inhonest) and the insertion of unnecessary suffixes (oxens). the basis of these results certain recommendation and suggestions are made for further research.  تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من الصعوبات التي تواجه دارسي اللغة الإنجليزية في المرحلة الجامعية في إستخدام البادئات واللواحق ومعرفة الأسباب وكيفية تذليلها بطرق متنوعة ومناسبة . وقد شارك في هذه الدراسة خمسون طالباً من جامعة النيلين – كلية الآداب – قسم اللغة الإنجليزية ، المستوى الثاني للعام الدراسي 2011 م – 2012 م. حيث إعتمدت الدراسة في وسائلها لجمع المعلومات على أسئلة الإختبار والتي ركز فيها الباحث على كيفية تحقيق أهداف البحث وإستفساراته وتدعيم فرضياته. وقد إشتملت الدراسة على خمسة فصول هي: الفصل الأول: تضمن مشكلة البحث، أهدافه ، أهميته، إستفساراته وفروضه بالإضافة لحدود البحث. الفصل الثاني : إشتمل على الإطار النظري للدراسات السابقة ذات الصلة بموضوع البحث. أما الفصلين الثالث والرابع فاشتملا على منهج البحث ومناقشة وتحليل المعلومات للعينة التي إستخدمت في البحث و أخيراً الفصل الخامس و إشتمل على أهم النتائج، التوصيات والمقترحات. وقد أثبتت النتائج أن الصعوبات والمشاكل التي تواجه الدارسين تعود إلى عدة أسباب منها التعميم، الحذف والإضافة في بعض القواعد العامة لعلم الصرف في اللغة الإنجليزية. وبناء على هذه النتائج قدم الباحث بعض التوصيات والمقترحات لدراسات وبحوث تسهم في حل المشكلة.
