Relationship between Soluble Suppression of Tumorigenicity2 (sST2) Level and N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) among Patient with Congestive Heart Failure in Gaza Strip, Palestine
(Graduate College, 2019-05-15) Hader Abu Zohry, Nassr Eldin M.A. Shrif; Yousef Aljeesh
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a common health problem in developed and developing countries and the prevalence is rising steadily. N-Terminal Brain Natriuretic (NT-proBNP) and suppression of tumorigenicity2 (ST2) has been established as a new and reliable laboratory marker for cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients especially congestive heart failure (CHF). Aims: to assess the relationship between level of soluble suppression of tumorigenicity2 (sST2), N-Terminal Brain Natriuretic (NT-BNP) among CHF patients. Method: Retrospective (case-control) study was used to collect data from 75 participants with CHF (case group), and 75 healthy normal individuals (control group). All participants were investigated for biochemical markers, serum NT-proBNP and ST2 levels were determined by ELISA techniques. SPSS-20 was used to analyze data. Results: The study results showed that sST2 and NT- pro BNP level is higher in CHF patients. ST2 was more sensitive than NT-proBNP (94% vs. 89%, p<0.001), whereas NT-proBNP showed higher specificity when compared to ST2 (100% vs. 97%, p<0.001) in predicting CHF patients. Conclusions: our results suggested that serum ST2 and NT- pro BNP level is higher in CHF patients and ST2 may serve as a biomarker in conjugation with NT- pro BNP to helpful in the diagnosis and prognosis of CHF patients.
