    Investigating Teaching and Learning of Speaking Skills of English Language at Sudanese Basic Education Schools

    The aim olithe study is to investigate teaching and learning olispeaking skills 0lil1llgllSll language at Sudanese basic ‘education schools of Khartoum state — Sharq Alneel locality (Alhaj Yousif Sector). The methodology used in this study is descriptive. The population ofthe study were basic school teachers and pupils , but the subjects were chosen randomly (60) teachers from Alhaj Yousif sector , and (40) who are the Sth. year pupils, the tools used ofthe study were questionnaire and test. The study hypothesized that: Teaching speaking skills at Sudanese basic schools are neglected. The class r0om’s environment does not stimulate pupils to participate in speaking activities. The pupils do not get sufficient opportunities to take pan in speaking activities in the class room. The activities offered by SPINE (3) are not adequate to develop speaking. The study has illustrated through the analysis of the questionnaire and test that: Teaching speaking skills at Sudanese basic schools is neglected. The activities offered by SPINE (3) are not adequate to develop speaking. The study presented some recommendations, the most important are: Pupils need to increase practice in speaking skills and the syllabus in English language at basic schools should contain more communicative exercises.
