    Abstract ~ This research attempted to answer a main question, which is: ‘ What are the causes for the weakness in the subject of literature and reading among the 7 grade boys and girls of the basic schools in Khartoum State. Also the research tried to know the teaching methods used in teaching these two subjects. To attain all this, the researcher divided the research into several chapters including theortical framework which dealt with the basic concepts concerning the Basic Education, literature, reading and teaching methods. Then it tackled the previous studies related to the research topic. The research conducted a field study on the level of Khartoum state represented by a sample schools of : Kerri Province, Khartoum Province, Umm Badda Province and Khartoum North Province. The study arrived at a number of findings among them, is that the curriculum is achieving the Arabic kanguage objectives in the Basic stage. And that the objectives are clearly formulated in simple expressions. Of the findings related to the curriculum content, is that the information presented
