Abstract This research deals with the impact of modem technologies used by banks in Sudan in its information systems. Descriptive methodology -explanatory and analytical- is being followed to achieve collection and presentation of data to give a clear picture of information systems used by banks. The relevant literature on information systems was surveyed. The success and failure factors in building and implementing computer based information systems were discussed in detail. A group of questionnaires -as a measure and collecting data too1- were distributed to the study population consisting of banks & managers in June 2003. The percentage of respondents are 48%-59% for software application questionnaires, and 24% for managers; this percentage seems to be acceptable - usually 20% to 40% - for this type of studies, if we take in consideration the homogenous study population, and the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data. - Within the analysis of data and infonnation collected, poor applications in management information systems (MIS) in a number of banks are observed. The absence of corporate databases which contains branches database, functional application database in the ‘head office and some important related informationfrom thé'surrounding environment. Also there was a clear shortage in decision support systems (DSS) applications and usage. " The responses clearly indicate that banks should invest in human resources (Managers, Employees, Devclopers...etc) by providing adequate training in modern information technologies IT, MIS and DSS.‘ Banks should adopt easy technologies and applications for employees and customers, to achieve efficient, effective information systems and services and to get the best possible benefits from the possessed information systems.
