    Abstract The research aims at discovering the psychological needs of the secondary school students to determine if any similarities or variations exit in the types of needs between the male and female students, and also between the urban and rural students. . It also aims at determining the general characteristics of psychological needs of the students. V The learning field in which the research is conducted comprises of second year secondary students in Jebel Aulia Province. The pattern of studying includes(377) pupils selected randomly according to their groups. The researcher used a questionnairevmethod in the collection of the data which is being modified according to the Sudanese environment. And the data is treated to test the research hypothesis by using statistical approach which represents the following: 1- Co-efficient correlation. 2 ~ T- Test. 3 — Man & Wittny- Test. The study results were as follow: 1- The students’ psychological needs are characterized by possessiveness. 2 — There are no any variations of statistical nature towards the two sexes. 3 — There are no any variation between the urban and rural students as to their physiological needs, self actualization needs, the needs oflove and belonging and self- fulfillment. 4 — there is a difference of statistical nature between the urban and rural students as to the needs of peace and security, for the access ofrural students. 5- There is a positive interrelationship between the needs of self fulfillment and learning achievement. 6 — There is no any relationship between learning achievement and the other needs of Masslow’s hierarchy of needs. 7 — There is indirect relationship (negative) between the achievement and needs oflove and belonging, and the national needs. The study was concluded with some results, recommendations and proposals in the field by research, also the content of the resources, references and the list of appendix are introduced.
