dc.description.abstract Abstract Intestinal metaplasia: which refers to replacement of gastric epithelium with columnar and goblet cells of intestinal variety. (1) The most common cause of intestinal metaplasia is H. pylori associated chronic gastritis.(2) This study was conducted at Histopathology laboratory in Ribat University Hospital during period from 2016 to 2017 . Objective : The aim of this to study Frequency of Intestinal Metaplasia Among Sudanese Patients With Chronic Gastritis In Khartum State. Materials and Methods :In this study 57 embedded paraffin tissue blocks were collected from archive recorder of Histopathology Lab at Ribat University Hospital at Khartoum state, study included males and females in different age. Two sections of three-microns thickness were cut from each paraffin block by using rotary microtome and then stained by two special histochemicals techniques including combined alcian blue-PAS stains to detection intestinal metaplasia in chronic gastritis tissue and May-Grunwald Giemsa stain to detection H. pylori in chronic gastritis tissue. Results: In this study the result of intestinal metaplasia was (5/57) 8.8% positive and (52/57) 91.2% free intestinal metaplasia and was present H.pylori (22/57) 38.6% and 61.4%(35/57) absent. In this study, we observed that gastric intestinal metaplasia was higher in chronic gastritis without H.pylori 80%(4/5) and 20%(1/5) in chronic gastritis tissues with H.pylori and intestinal metaplasia higher in patients between 38-56 (40%) and 57-75(40%) years than other age group and higher in male 80% (4/5) than female 20%(1/5). IV Conclusions: From results of our study we concluded that - gastric IM in this study was 8.8% in chronic gastritis patients. -gastric IM are higher in male patients more than female. -gastric IM are higher in older patients more than young .
